Summary


Fast forward, your career by joining our Renal Satellite Haemodialysis Unit based at St Charles Dialysis Centre for Health & Well-being. You will ideally have at least 6 months post registration experience in a renal or acute setting. However, candidates without experience will be considered and informal visits are highly recommended. Our department is full of opportunity. We offer a variety of training within this speciality and there are on-going opportunities for self-development including secondment in CPPD in renal nursing.

We have two Full Time positions available. The successful applicants will join our established nurse led team. By becoming a renal nurse you will play an integral role in maintaining and developing a centre of clinical excellence and work in an environment that meets the needs of both clients and team members. The successful candidate is expected to be flexible and able to work shift patterns to accommodate the service needs.


• Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision including as required.
• Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care.
• Assist and advise unregistered staff in the delivery of patient car.
• Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly.
• Undertake nursing haemodialysis procedures.
• Participate in monthly blood results audit. Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team on evaluation of nursing care.
• Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to Trust policy including competence in renal Patient Group Directives.
• Physical exposure to blood and body fluids, use of needles with larger gauges, disposal of dialysis waste.
• Exposure to chemical hazards that are used in the disinfecting of machines frequently.
• Frequently pushing and pulling of machines and electric chairs and the distribution of dialysis solutions (5 litres). Manual dexterity required to connect and disconnect haemodialysis lines.
• 90% standing on shift as both the patients and dialysis machines require frequent monitoring.
• Act as the patients advocate liaising with Community Health Teams and Hospital Multi-disciplinary teams. Liaise with patients relatives by telephone to offer advice on health issues and how to maintain good health.
