Summary

The Communications Officer will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality communications across the MP’s parliamentary and constituency responsibilities. The role requires excellent writing and digital skills, and the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities.

The successful applicant can be based in the Westminster or Carlisle constituency office. This is a full-time office-based role.

Key Responsibilities
• Create high-quality digital content for social media, newsletters and the website.
• Manage and grow the MP’s social media presence, including content scheduling, moderation, enquiries and audience engagement.
• Edit and manage photographic and video content.
• Draft press releases, briefings, speeches.
• Draft, design and update content for the MP’s website and other publicity materials.
• Produce and manage a communications grid.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and key stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to promote parliamentary and constituency activity.
• Support media appearances, events, including content capture and follow-up.
• Work closely with the MP to deliver strategic communications and adapt priorities in response to political and media developments and public feedback.
• Maintain accurate records and content logs, ensuring compliance with data protection and confidentiality requirements.
• Communications-related administrative tasks using Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
• Work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends and travel, reflecting the demands of the role.
• Uphold high professional standards, sound political judgement, confidentiality and digital safety at all times.

Person specification
• Experience delivering communications in a similar environment.
• Excellent writing skills and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to create engaging digital content.
• Strong understanding of the UK political context and the role of an MP.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently, handle sensitive information confidentially and respond to changing priorities.
