Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Geography to join a thriving and successful department. Geography is a popular and well-established subject at both GCSE and A Level, with a curriculum that combines academic rigour, contemporary relevance, and rich opportunities for fieldwork and enquiry.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher to contribute to a department with a strong sense of identity and a clear commitment to high-quality teaching and learning. You will work within a collaborative team to deliver a curriculum that challenges students intellectually, develops their sense of place and global responsibility, and enables them to achieve highly.
We are looking for:
• A highly-skilled and knowledgeable teacher of Geography, capable of inspiring students across Key Stages and, ideally, at A Level;
• A reflective and committed classroom practitioner who is enthusiastic about developing pedagogy and engaging students through enquiry, fieldwork, and contemporary geographical issues;
• Someone who values collaboration and is keen to contribute to the wider life of the school, including field work, enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities.
This role offers:
• The opportunity to join a successful and well-resourced Geography department with a strong culture of collegiality;
• A supportive environment that prioritises professional development, subject expertise, and curriculum thinking;
• The chance to work in a school that values ambition, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence.
If you are passionate about Geography and excited by the prospect of working in a dynamic and forward-thinking department, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Interviews will take place w/c 11 May.
What the school offers its staff
• Many opportunities for CPD in subject knowledge, pedagogy and leadership through numerous platforms;
• A supportive work environment;
• A commitment to wellbeing including incentives such as health care provided by Simply Health, free staff parking and tea/coffee, and respect for professional autonomy;
• An open culture, where colleagues feel safe in disclosing any mental health conditions and one in which every individual feels properly supported with reasonable adjustments being discussed and offered when required;
• Opportunities for collaboration through academic links through the South West Academic Trust, a group of schools including Churston, Colyton, Bournemouth, Poole and South Wilts Grammar Schools, which works with staff from Exeter University to extend the challenges and opportunities for both staff and students.
Commitment to safeguarding
Torquay Boys' Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This responsibility falls to all staff and as such safeguarding training is provided upon commencement of employment, with regular and annual updates. All applicants must be aware they will be subject to enhanced DBS and child protection checks.
