Summary

Post holders are employed on a sessional basis, a session being 4 hours 10 minutes. Clinical Duties: Responding to medical problems presented by patients, including history taking, examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and referral where appropriate. The post-holder will make themselves available to undertake face to face consultations, telephone consultations and video consultations, home visits and care home visits as appropriate. Responding to online/email queries from patients and health care professionals. Providing on-call services as necessary in conjunction with other colleagues during the surgery opening hours. Providing services as per GMS contract and national enhanced services. Processing a share of the daily administration in a timely manner, including referrals, prescription requests (whilst adhering to the local prescribing formulary), letters and pathology reports, for own workflow and for other teams as required. Preparing medical reports for insurance companies, employers and statutory bodies. Collecting and recording data, in order to comply with QOF requirements. Accepting delegated responsibility for specific area of QOF. Supporting the practice staff and responding to requests for advice and assistance from the practice reception, secretarial and nursing teams. Participating in extended hours offered by the Practice. In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in primary care. Education and Personal Development: Engaging in appropriate educational activity, in order to maintain clinical competence and performance. Attending and participating in practice educational meetings, including GSF meetings, QIP meetings and case reviews. Participating in the training and development of nurses and non-clinical staff. Participating in the training and development of medical students, foundation trainees and GP trainees. Participating in clinical governance activity and contributing to the improvement in quality of health outcomes through the practices audit programme. Completion of practice mandatory training to be undertaken annually. Compliance with practice and national appraisal process. To behave in a professional way that encourages quality practice and the development of team spirit.
