We are currently seeking a Safety, Health and Environment Technician Apprentice to work within our Health & Safety Team.

About the team
The Health and Safety service is a successful, innovative team which provides Health and Safety services across North Yorkshire Council and to City of York Council. We are also growing and branching out into commercial areas with academies and other public sector bodies, so you would be joining us as we move forward on our journey.
As a team we are committed to delivering excellent services to our clients, so we challenge ourselves and our team to look at ways to continuously improve. This requires our team members to think innovatively, develop pragmatic solutions and be supportive of colleagues which on occasion can be in challenging situations.
The role
We are looking for a Safety, Health and Environment Technician Higher Level Apprentice. As an Apprentice, you will learn on the job to provide advice, guidance, and support on a wide variety of health and safety issues. This could be from how to comply with statutory requirements through to implementing nationally recognised best practice.
Throughout your apprenticeship you can expect to receive ongoing support and guidance from others within the team, as well as dedicated time assigned to complete your Level 3 qualification in Safety, Health & Environment.
This varied and exciting post is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and knowledge with the potential of a permanent position, on completion of the qualification and having a great career with some really great career prospects in an excellent organisation. Previous apprentices have become senior health and safety advisors having a significant impact on the organisation.
Skills that you will develop:
A good knowledge of H&S risk management and assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety Management System
How to interpret and update systems according to changes in legislation or best practice
Implementation and development of training programmes, being able to communicate well and engage the audience with presentations and tools for training.
Work with the team and develop good relationships with employees at all levels and working with others in a collaborative way.
Assisting and/or manage the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents with other colleagues.
Undertake workplace inspections and audits, create robust risk assessment.
Support and advise our services with appropriate health, safety and environment advice in line with statutory, regulatory, legislation and good practice.
Recognising situations where the activity will benefit from contributions and expertise of other internal departments such as HR, Legal, Insurance or Occupational Health.
What you will bring
To be successful you must have:
Level 2 in Maths and English or Grade C and above GCSE
Have excellent communication skills including through social media platforms
The role requires the ability to travel across the county, for which you will either have access to a pool car or be paid mileage on your own vehicle
