Responsibilities
As a Refuse Loader, your primary responsibilities will include:
• Collecting household and recyclable waste from assigned neighborhoods or locations.
• Safely loading bins or bags of refuse onto collection trucks as part of a team.
• Ensuring that collection schedules and routes are followed efficiently.
• Adhering to all health and safety guidelines while working in outdoor environments.
• Maintaining a clear and clean workspace by handling waste properly and responsibly.
• Collaborating with other team members, drivers, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
• Reporting equipment issues, safety concerns, or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and attributes:
• Physical Ability: Strong physical endurance and ability to lift, carry, and handle heavy loads.
• Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others toward shared goals.
• Punctuality and Reliability: A track record of being dependable and dedicated to showing up on time.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to follow routes and schedules with precision.
• Safety Awareness: Knowledge of health and safety procedures or willingness to learn.
• Previous experience in refuse collection, waste management, or a similar role is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Note: All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided for this role.
Day-to-Day Activities
• Arrive at the depot on time to meet with the team and review the day's route.
• Work with the driver and other team members to complete assigned collections.
• Load bins, bags, and containers onto trucks safely and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with the team to ensure all stops are completed.
• Respond professionally to occasional interactions with the public.
• Return to the depot to clean equipment and prepare for the next shift.
The basic shift is 14:00-22:00 Monday to Friday.
The basic pay is £13.26/h.
