Built your career in construction and ready for a more secure, school‑hours role?

Want to pass on your practical skills and shape future tradespeople?

No teaching qualification? No problem, we’ll fully support you to train while working.

Bring your construction skills to the next generation!

Your role:

As a Construction Skills Instructor at Richard Barnes Academy, you will work with young people aged 12–16 in an alternative provision setting, helping them develop practical construction skills, confidence, and positive work habits.

This is a hands on, workshop focused role, centred on:

- - Delivering practical construction skills

- - Modelling industry standards, routines, and safe working practices

- - Engaging learners through real-world, skills-based activities

You’ll work as part of a supportive team, building positive relationships and preparing students for progression into further education, training, or apprenticeships.

While there is some planning and assessment, you will be fully supported, with the emphasis firmly on practical delivery rather than paperwork heavy classroom teaching.

What we’re looking for:

- Strong hands on experience in construction or a related trade
- A practical, patient and encouraging approach
- The ability to build positive relationships with young people
- A commitment to safety, inclusion and safeguarding

Previous teaching experience is helpful but not essential.

We warmly welcome visits from prospective candidates.
