Summary
Rotherham Golf Club is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Greenkeeper to join our greenkeeping team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to start a career in golf course maintenance, combining hands-on experience with formal training toward a recognised greenkeeping qualification.
The successful candidate will support the day-to-day maintenance and presentation of the golf course, learning best practices in turf care, machinery use, health and safety, and environmental management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in the daily maintenance of the golf course to maintain high playing standards
• Mowing of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and surrounds under supervision
• Raking bunkers and maintaining sand conditions
• Hole changing and tee marker placement
• Assisting with course set-up for competitions and events
• Supporting irrigation, drainage, and general turf management tasks
• Basic operation and maintenance of greenkeeping machinery (training provided)
• Carrying out general grounds maintenance and workshop duties
• Adhering to all health and safety procedures at all times
• Attending college or training provider sessions as part of the apprenticeship programme
• Demonstrating a willingness to learn and develop greenkeeping skills
Training: Delivery to be completed on-site and 6 hours per week off the job training either at Barnsley College or your place of work. Student to complete an Intermediate Technical Certificate as a Golf Greenkeeper Level 2. Functional Skills in maths and English, if required.
