Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Shift Engineer to work within a commercial office building in WC1, Central London. This is a permanent role with an established SME facilities management provider, operating on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern covering days and nights.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high‑quality mechanical maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and reactive maintenance within a busy commercial office environment. This role would suit a Mechanical Shift Engineer, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, or Building Services Engineer with strong experience in hard FM sites.

Key Responsibilities

Provide mechanical engineering cover on a 4 on 4 off days and nights shift rota
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical building services
Respond promptly to reactive mechanical maintenance issues
Fault find and maintain HVAC systems, AHUs, FCUs, pumps, valves, pipework, and pressurisation units
Monitor and maintain plant rooms, ensuring safe and efficient operation at all times
Support water systems monitoring and basic compliance checks (L8 awareness beneficial)
Assist with minor mechanical installation and remedial works
Ensure all works comply with Health & Safety legislation and site procedures
Accurately complete shift logs, permits to work, and CAFM updates
Liaise effectively with electrical engineers, security, and site management

Candidate Requirements

NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (or equivalent)
Proven experience as a Mechanical Shift Engineer or Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Background working within commercial offices, corporate buildings, data‑led environments, or facilities management
Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems
Experience working on days and nights shift patterns
Good fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
Able to work independently and respond calmly during out‑of‑hours incidents
Strong communication and customer service skills
