Location: Birmingham, Manchester Newcastle and Penrith

Salary: Starting from £46,000 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibly, just ask us

About the Role



As part of the Professional Services Team, the Senior Highways Technology Engineer provides strategic and technical leadership to highways clients delivering Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The role involves leading highways technology schemes from concept to preliminary design, providing expert advice and governance across innovative and legacy systems, producing high‑quality technical outputs including designs, specifications, BoQs and reports, and supporting clients with business cases and risk management, while also mentoring and managing junior team members.



Key Requirements



-Degree in an engineering or science‑related discipline

-Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership (desirable)

-Asset Management or Project / Programme Management qualification (desirable)

-Strong experience delivering ITS consultancy, design or project management

-Good understanding of Asset Management principles

-Experience leading teams or managing work packages

-Knowledge of ITS, highways technology assets, IoT, telecoms and IP systems

-Familiar with systems engineering and design frameworks

-Comfortable managing workloads, programmes and stakeholders

-Strong communication skills with a practical, commercial mindset





Main Responsibilities



-Lead and develop Professional Services team members, providing line management, coaching and support

-Plan workloads, allocate tasks and assure quality, programme and timely delivery

-Deliver ITS and highways technology work packages to time, budget and quality

-Monitor budgets, risks and performance to support profitable project delivery

-Build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and supply‑chain partners

-Support business growth and development of new ITS and technology opportunities

-Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences

-Represent Kier at client meetings and industry events as required
