Summary
North Manchester General Hospital is inviting applications for the position of Consultant in General Medicine, this role will primarily be based within General Medicine but there is scope to include a number of diabetes/endocrinology clinics
We are building a strong General Medical team to provide safe, excellent care to our inpatients and are looking for strong and invested consultant colleagues to join our friendly, patient focused team
The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day care of elective and emergency patients and will work with and liaise with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to ensure an appropriate and processional timely provision of care to patients across General Medicine
The post holder is required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register for medicine or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview.
The successful candidate will interact with nursing staff, medical staff from other specialties and AHPs in addition to other members of the medical team to formulate and appropriate diagnostic and management plans, taking into account patient preferences. The post holder will supervise the work of junior colleagues and provide advice & support
• To provide rapid assessment of general medical patients.
• To stabilise and manage patients admitted with medical emergencies.
• To carry out post-take ward rounds during the week.
• To maintain effective communication and handover to the on-call team.
• To take part in the General Medical on-call rota with colleagues
• The successful applicant will have the opportunity to clinically and educationally supervise junior doctor trainees who will be supporting the care of your inpatients.
• To take part in regular medical audit as part of SPA commitment and to use the outcomes of medical audit to improve the care for patients in the Trust and local healthcare economy. Time is provided regularly to attend audit meetings and present audit where appropriate.
• A commitment to maintaining continuing professional development (CPD) and lifelong learning, with support and time provided to keep up to date with yearly CPD requirements.
• Provide advice and leadership to the clinical team in relation to patient care, education and well-being.
