The Opportunity

Do you want a career where you can make a real difference every single day?

At Barnsley College, our Foundation Learning team is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers, grow in confidence and achieve their potential. We are looking for a Tutorial Learning Mentor to join our positive, experienced and caring team – a team that is deeply committed to inclusion, opportunity and improving the life chances of every learner.

This is a role with real purpose. You will work closely with young people who may be facing significant challenges in their lives and education, offering encouragement, guidance and practical support to help them move forward. Whether through one-to-one mentoring, group work, pastoral support or helping learners to access the right services, your work will have a lasting and meaningful impact.

What makes this role so special is the job satisfaction that comes from knowing you are genuinely helping to transform lives. Every conversation, every piece of encouragement and every step of progress matters. You will be supporting learners to feel valued, understood and able to succeed, often at moments when that support means the most.

You will be part of a team that truly believes in working together, lifting each other up and creating a learning environment where everyone feels they belong. Our Foundation Learning staff are dedicated, skilled and compassionate, and we are proud of the supportive culture we have built.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a dedicated team where your contribution directly supports learner success and personal development.

About You

We are looking for someone who shares our values and commitment to supporting young people. You will be patient, encouraging and genuinely motivated by helping learners to thrive.

Experience in mentoring, pastoral support, youth work or education would be beneficial, but just as important is your ability to build positive relationships, listen effectively and believe in the potential of every learner. You will be confident working with young people from a range of backgrounds and able to offer calm, consistent support when learners face challenges.

You will be approachable, resilient and organised, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A positive attitude, strong communication skills and a commitment to inclusion and equality are essential.

For the right person, we will provide training, development and ongoing support to help you grow in the role and succeed as part of our Foundation Learning team.
