Summary
As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will provide high‑quality care and support to children and young people within a residential setting, ensuring their physical, emotional and psychological needs are met. You will work alongside colleagues to deliver consistent, relationship‑based care that supports recovery, growth, and positive outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing safe, nurturing and child‑centred care within a residential home.
Supporting the development, implementation and review of individual care plans.
Promoting a positive, inclusive and stable living environment.
Supporting children and young people with daily routines, including education, health, personal care and emotional wellbeing.
Participating in and organising leisure, recreational and community activities.
Undertaking practical domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning and maintaining the home to promote a homely environment.
Maintaining accurate, clear and timely records and documentation.
Working collaboratively with colleagues, families and partner agencies to meet children’s needs.
Upholding safeguarding procedures and ensuring the welfare and protection of all children.
Supporting and upholding the principles of The Promise Scotland, ensuring children feel loved, listened to and respected.

You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing and trauma responsive environment — a secure base where children and young people can feel cared for, develop trusting relationships, and begin to flourish.

We are looking for individuals who:
Have experience of working with young people who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences, or who have a strong interest in this area.
Have an understanding of attachment theory and trauma‑responsive care.
Can see beyond presenting behaviours and respond with empathy, patience and hope.
Understand that this is a demanding role and can maintain composure, resilience and professionalism during challenging situations.
Are able to organise and participate in activities that support development and wellbeing.
Hold an HNC in Social Care and SVQ Level 3, or are willing to work towards these qualifications.
Are willing to register with the SSSC within 3 months of their start date.
You will be expected to uphold professional standards as outlined by the SSSC and the Care Inspectorate, work within policies and procedures, and demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Many of the young people we support have experienced significant childhood adversity and may, at times, experience high levels of distress.
We are seeking people who can provide stability, warmth, and consistency during both the good days and the challenging ones.
