There are 15 Acute Medical Consultants working within the department 9 of which are dedicated Acute Medical Consultants and 5 dual specialise of which include Endocrine, Gastroenterology and Renal. Of the Acute Medical Consultants, the special interests are broad and include perioperative medicine, primary care, palliative care, education (undergrad and simulation), leadership and high dependency care. Acute medicine has been consistently dynamic in its evolution embracing changes in practice quickly which is recognised in high quality bench marking and evaluations of standards. The service is broken up into distinct areas: SDEC, Frailty SDEC, Ambulatory Care, Acute Hospital at Home, and AMU. We are, as a department, motivated to also increase our offering in Research, Quality Improvement, Digital Health and Ultrasound. These activities would be supported in job plans. We offer point of care ultrasound with rapid access to diagnostics and procedures and have developed innovative ways of remote home monitoring having been awarded several Digital Health grants. This has been recognised with HSJ innovation award nominations. We are not a department or trust that likes to stay still.
