The Role
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic individual seeking a career as an Environmental Health Practitioner, with a specialist interest in Housing.
The successful candidate will be expected to register for the Environmental Health Practitioner BSc Apprenticeship. This is a four-year course, leading to a degree-level qualification and includes the main subject areas for a career in local government, together with the links to the wider public health elements.

The position will be located within the Private Rented Housing Team. The team deal with a wide range of duties including licensing of houses in multiple occupation and caravan sites and improving housing conditions. Your role will involve assisting team members on inspections along with project work.
Across the 4 years opportunities will be given to gain experience in all areas of the profession.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out a range of different types of housing inspections to support other officers on the teams.
Investigate complaints about housing conditions.
Keep accurate records.
Talk to a range of customers and stakeholders to help improve the homes of people who live in North Somerset
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work Style

This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
2-3 days in the office
Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about improving housing conditions, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills)
Self-motivated with effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines, including the ability to prioritise and work methodically and accurately.
Works well within a team.
Capable of influencing and being assertive in appropriate situations.
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of the nature and scope of environmental health work.
Experience of carrying out inspections, investigations or dealing with complaints.
