Summary

A well-established organisation based on the outskirts of Newark is seeking a Senior Finance Assistant to join their small, collaborative central finance team. This is a key role supporting both the Finance Manager and Finance Director, offering excellent exposure across all areas of finance.

The position has become available due to retirement in June and presents a great opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking for stability, variety, and a supportive working environment.

This role also offers flexibility on working pattern - we are open to both full-time candidates (37 hours per week, year-round) or those who may prefer a term-time only arrangement with a few additional working weeks, depending on individual preference.

As Senior Finance Assistant, you will also support the Purchase Ledger Clerk and take a leading role in month-end processes and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

    • Carry out day-to-day finance administration, including authorising orders and payments
    • Support the Purchase Ledger Clerk and provide wider team guidance where required
    • Ensure accurate tracking and reconciliation of grant funding against budgets
    • Assist with month-end processes, including reconciliations
    • Contribute to the preparation of 3-5 year budgets for review and approval
    • Identify and report budget variances, recommending corrective actions
    • Support year-end audit preparation and internal assurance processes
    • Maintain and update the contract register, ensuring renewals are managed effectively
    • Provide ongoing support to the Finance Manager and Finance Director on ad hoc tasks

    About You

      • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a finance or accounting role
      • Strong experience in core finance processes including reconciliations, debtors, creditors, and month-end
      • Confident working with and supporting non-finance stakeholders
      • Strong Excel and financial systems experience
      • Excellent attention to detail with strong communication skills
      • Able to work independently while contributing to a small team environment
      • AAT qualified or working towards is desirable, but not essential - experience is key

      Working Pattern

        • 37 hours per week (full-time option)
        • Flexible working hours, typically around 9am-5pm with some flexibility
        • Also open to candidates seeking a term-time only role, plus a small number of additional working weeks
        • A flexible opportunity designed to suit different working preferences
