Summary
Murray Recruitment are recruiting a Generator Controls System Engineer for our client based in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to take ownership of generator control systems across their full lifecycle, working on technically varied and challenging projects.
Role Overview
This role involves the design, development, commissioning, and maintenance of generator control systems within power generation and distribution environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring systems are robust, compliant, and efficiently integrated, supporting both new installations and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee the build of electrical control panels for generator and power distribution systems
Configure and troubleshoot generator controllers, including synchronisation, load sharing, and remote monitoring
Conduct detailed site surveys and inspections to inform system design and project proposals
Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
Carry out on-site commissioning in collaboration with electrical contractors
Diagnose faults using LV and HV schematics and implement effective solutions
Develop and test switching logic, interlocks, and protection schemes
Ensure compliance with grid protection and electrical safety standards
Skills & Experience
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in generator control systems or a similar electrical engineering role
Strong technical knowledge of generator controllers and associated software
Solid understanding of LV and HV electrical schematics, switchgear, and protection systems
Familiarity with UK electrical standards including BS 7671 and relevant IEC standards
Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN for schematic design and review
Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel to customer sites
Desirable Experience
Experience with alternative control systems such as DeepSea or Woodward
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Modbus and TCP/IP
Experience with remote monitoring platforms
HV switching or electrical safety certifications
