Summary

Our client Scottish Power Transmissions are currently recruiting for a Lead P&C Design Engineer to join their team based in Cambuslang on a contract basis initially. Ideally for this role they are looking for a strong Design Engineer with a background in Protection and Control. For more information on this role see below:

Job Purpose Statement
Develop and deliver Protection and Control engineering solutions for transmission networks (132kV and
above) providing necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs, innovation, effective technical support, advice and input throughout the lifecycle of projects. Define technical and economic criteria to ensure established quality and safety standards are achieved, whilst maximising profitability and provide Engineering consultancy to other parts of the business as required.

Accountability Statements
? Define protection and control and ancillary apparatus requirements for input to System
Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation and advise on construction and outage programmes where required in relation to Control & Protection.
? Responsible for basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for Networks and Plant Protection Systems, Network Automation and Substation Control Systems,
Telecommunication Networks and Metering.
? Provide engineering specialism in the field of Protection and Control
? Responsible for technical assessment of tender submissions, preparation/review of Control & Protection design drawings and specifications.
? Ensure Networks and Plant Protection Systems, Network Automation and Substation Control Systems and Telecommunication Networks are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
? Provide technical support to the Project team on matters concerning the design, construction and operation of control and protection systems and lead the technical resolution of site/ construction Control & Protection issues.
? Responsible for engineering documentation following quality processes to meet deliverables for PQP's and BETTA.
? Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environment compliance and continuous improvement and liaise across multi disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solutions.
? Lead training needs assessment for new products or similar and the development and delivery of technical, operational and safety packages for such products.
? Advise on the development of pre-contract design and delivery of projects by leading/supporting the technical aspects of Networks and Plant Protection Systems, Network Automation and Substation Control Systems, Telecommunication Networks and Metering.
? Maintain an awareness of technological advances and industry best practice. Assist with
evaluation and apply 'new ideas', technical developments, new equipment and alternative working methods to provide cost savings, efficiencies and improved safety, reflected in review of policies and standards.
? Assess engineering documentation, feasibility and compliance with business requirements and support the preparation of accurate budgets for new projects.

Dimensions
? Geographical Area - be part of a team with team members located in one or more offices in Scotland.
? The roles will be fluid in that location in the organogram will rotate between the design function and the delivery function depending on design status
? Able to travel independently to effectively support project site and factory activities.
? Take the lead in mentoring younger team members.
? Provide engineering specialism in the field of Protection and Control

Skills, Knowledge & Experience
? Degree in an Engineering discipline with relevant experience.
? Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards).
? Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
? Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
? Having the ability to investigate and understand technical characteristics of substation plant and associated equipment.
? An understanding in terms of the plant and equipment deployed for transmission networks and how it is operated / maintained.
? Experience in the implementation of new technologies and engineering solutions to achieve reductions in project lifetime costs.
? Proven experience in a responsible position and knowledge in one or more of the following areas at voltages from 33kV to 400kV:
? Protection
? Substation and Network Control
? Automation
? Telecommunications
? Metering

Planning & Organising
? Organise your own workload once the EMO and Section Heads have agreed project allocation
? Make recommendations of continuous improvement initiatives relating to the Engineering
function
? Plan and deliver agreed actions within PDP and support colleagues as required in development activities and assessments

A collaborative and directing or influencing relationship will be used as appropriate to effectively develop and deliver transmission networks projects. The purpose and nature of the relationship will depend on the complexity of the project and particular division of responsibilities,
