About the role
We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our effluent treatment team at Marlowe Environmental Services, part of Mitie. https://www.marlowe-es.com/wastewater-treatment/
This role replaces our current laboratory technician and will be based at the Coalville laboratory, which focuses on effluent management and treatment.
You'll be responsible for analysing effluent samples to determine the most effective chemical treatments, using a variety of analytical and wet chemistry techniques. The position will include jar testing to evaluate coagulants and flocculants, COD and metal testing via photometric methods, and gravimetric and FOG analyses, as well as preparing technical reports for both customers and internal teams. You will also assist with new product evaluation and ensure laboratory methods and quality standards are maintained.
-No previous experience is required.
-Full training will be given.
-The role would suit a graduate in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials Engineering, or Environmental Engineering.
Main DutiesSample Preparation and Analysis
-Log incoming samples
-Label, organise, and prepare samples for testing and storage.
-Use balances and other laboratory equipment to prepare and analyse samples using filtration, colourimetry, and titration techniques.
-Conduct gravimetric, FOG, COD, and metal analysis.
-Carry out jar tests to identify the most effective coagulants and flocculants for each sample.
Laboratory Upkeep, Equipment Maintenance, and Calibration
-Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, including balances, pipettes, and glassware after use.
-Support the Lab Manager and Operations Manager with calibration and routine maintenance.
-Perform daily equipment checks and report any faults.
Inventory Management
-Maintain accurate records of laboratory consumables and chemical stocks.
-Order and receive supplies as required.
-Ensure compliant storage and disposal of chemicals and waste materials.
Documentation and Reporting
-Maintain detailed records of laboratory work and follow data management procedures.
-Produce accurate technical reports and summaries.
-Contribute to developing and improving laboratory processes and written methods.
Safety and Compliance
-Follow all laboratory safety protocols and wear correct PPE.
-Participate in safety briefings and adhere to chemical handling guidelines.
