Summary
About the role
Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for Sussex and Southeast Hampshire. We provide specialist paediatric palliative care to children and young people across the region, as well as bereavement support for families whose child has died. Our ethos is ‘adding life to shortened years and the provision of fun and exciting events and activites for the children on our caseload and their families is a major part of what we do.
This is a dynamic and varied role in which the post holder will work within the activities team and in collaboration with the family support team in the community setting and at the children’s hospice. The post holder will plan, arrange and support a fun activities and events programme for the children and young people on the caseload which could include toddler groups, after school groups and youth groups, other events and parties. The role will also support families, providing opportunities for them to come together at social events as well as facilitating smaller groups, this could include coffee mornings, craft sessions, pamper sessions and groups for dads and mums.
Essential criteria
- Develop and provide age-appropriate recreation, fun activities and events for children, young people and their families across the CTH. catchment area such as youth groups, toddlers groups, craft groups, parties, celebration events.
- Support and facilitate activities and play in the community and in the family home.
- Liaise with external organisations and individuals, to book visits and activities for children, young adults and their families.
- Alongside the family support team, develop and deliver engagement events for the family including opportunities for parents and carers to come together to socialise and develop support networks.
- Arrange and support sibling activities, including taking siblings to fun places in the community such as theme parks, zoos, cinema, bowling.
- Work as part of the activities team in planning and developing activity and engagement programmes, developing resources and sharing ideas.
- Work alongside the clinical team on occasions providing joint visits at home or supporting the clinical team inhouse with non-personal care.
- During activities and events, provide a stimulating but safe environment.
- Co-ordinate volunteers who can work alongside you with activities.
