Are you an experienced Design Engineer looking to take the next step in a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment? We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team in Hayes, where you’ll play a key role in delivering innovative, high-standard design solutions across a range of projects.
The RoleAs a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing accurate 2D and 3D technical designs, ensuring all work is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You’ll take ownership of design projects from concept through to completion, while supporting continuous improvement across the design function.
Key Responsibilities Design & Technical Delivery- Produce detailed 2D and 3D designs aligned with project briefs
- Create manufacturing, assembly, installation, and client approval drawings
- Manage CAD files, drawing registers, and project documentation
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Ensure all designs comply with SOPs and document control procedures
- Proactively resolve design challenges across cost, quality, and time constraints
Project & Performance Management- Deliver design work within agreed timeframes and budgets
- Monitor progress and report risks or delays to management
- Ensure designs are practical for manufacture, transport, and installation
Collaboration & Leadership- Work closely with production and internal departments
- Support and mentor Junior CAD Engineers
- Build strong working relationships across teams
Quality & Continuous Improvement- Maintain high standards of accuracy and attention to detail
- Support improvements in design processes and quality systems
- Ensure all work meets internal and client expectations
Health, Safety & Compliance- Apply CDM 2015 regulations within all designs
- Promote and adhere to H&S, quality, and environmental policies
What We’re Looking For Essential- Degree, HNC, or equivalent in Engineering
- 8+ years’ experience in mechanical design, specifically within fabrication
- Strong experience in 2D & 3D CAD software such as:
- Inventor 3D
- AutoCAD 2D
- SolidWorks
- Tekla or Advance Steel
- Proven experience in a similar design engineering role
- Background in architectural metalwork or fabrication design
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes
- Excellent time management and ability to meet tight deadlines
Desirable- CSCS Card
- CDM training
