About the Role

We are looking for a Freelance Essential Skills Numeracy Tutor to deliver structured, high‑quality teaching that helps learners achieve recognised qualifications. Your work builds confidence and supports clear routes into employment, apprenticeships and further training. This is purposeful, accountable teaching with clear expectations, fixed delivery standards and measurable outcomes.

You will help learners progress through accredited Essential Skills Numeracy or Application of Number programmes, ensuring they are fully prepared for formal assessment.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver Essential Skills Numeracy / Application of Number sessions
  • Prepare learners for accredited assessment
  • Maintain engagement, participation and attendance
  • Adapt teaching to varied abilities and learning needs
  • Model professionalism, punctuality and preparation
  • Maintain accurate learner records aligned to safeguarding and compliance
  • Meet delivery and quality expectations consistently

What You Will Bring

  • A degree where Mathematics forms at least 50% of your studies (Maths, Engineering, Physics, Economics or similar)
  • A recognised teaching qualification in line with ES Circular 01/12
  • Experience delivering Essential Skills Numeracy or Application of Number
  • Strong planning, organisation and classroom management
  • Ability to build confidence while maintaining expectations
  • Understanding of safeguarding and compliance requirements
  • Professionalism, punctuality and consistency

A Day in the Role

A typical day starts with preparation and a clear lesson objective aligned to the Essential Skills curriculum. In the classroom, you set expectations early and link content to practical, relatable examples. You monitor engagement, provide structured support and adjust your approach where needed without lowering standards. After teaching, you update records, review learner progress and plan the next session.

This is structured, purposeful teaching with measurable outcomes.
