Desian Education are proud to be supporting an extremely supportive and inclusive single-form entry primary school in St Helens that is easily accessible by public transport as they are looking to appoint a dedicated and reliable teaching assistant for a temporary contract. This is a full-time position consisting of 32.5 hours per week, starting on 13/04/2026 and lasting the remainder of the academic year.


Your new role

As a teaching assistant in this school, you will be joining an extremely supportive and collaborative school. You will be based in a year 5 class, supporting the class teacher to delivering stimulating and engaging lessons for all pupils. You will lead on intervention support, directly planning and delivering targeted interventions in core subjects and key areas, this will including small group intense interventions with lower/mixed ability pupils within a separate classroom. This is a “lively” class with a number of big personalities, as such you will need to be well-versed in positive behaviour strategies to retain focus and engagement.


What you need to succeed

- Full “Right to Work” in the UK
- Be willing to undergo an Enhanced Children’s DBS check
- Good knowledge of the KS2 national curriculum
- Have relevant referenceable classroom experience
- Having an NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification is advantageous but not essential
