Summary
About the Role
As an Accounting Apprentice, you will support day-to-day accounting and administrative tasks while developing your knowledge of bookkeeping, VAT, and financial accounts. This role offers exposure to a wide range of clients, including sole traders and limited companies, giving you valuable real-world experience from the outset.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
General administrative support within the accounts function
Sending reminders for VAT and limited company deadlines and following up on required documentation via phone, email, and letter
Organising and maintaining invoices and receipts
Entering sales invoices, purchase invoices, and receipts into accounting software
Maintaining accurate client files and liaising directly with clients
Completing cashbooks using bank statements and reconciling them to zero
Compiling and submitting VAT returns
Preparing trial balances for financial accounts for sole traders and limited companies
Dealing with HMRC and responding to queries
Answering client queries via telephone and email
Ensuring month-end planning is completed and deadlines are met for VAT returns, financial accounts, and tax returns
Credit control duties, including contacting clients regarding outstanding balances, receiving payments, and allocating funds on the system
Training and Qualifications
Working towards an AAT Level 2 or Level 3 Accounting qualification
Full on-the-job training and structured learning support provided
Skills and Personal Qualities
Good organisational and administrative skills
Strong attention to detail
Confident communication skills, both written and verbal
Comfortable working with numbers and financial data
Basic IT skills and willingness to learn accounting software
Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload
Reliable, professional, and eager to learn
Able to work well independently and as part of a team
