Summary
Elective colorectal surgery is performed at Castle Hill Hospital with a dedicated 36 bedded colorectal ward including an 8 bedded high observation area. The colorectal service operates five days per week with daily access to an integrated minimally invasive operating theatre as well as additional parallel main theatre sessions. The department also has 5 day surgical lists per week in the Day Surgical Unit at Castle Hill Hospital. Outpatient facilities are based at Castle Hill Hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary, Beverley Westwood Hospital, and the Alfred Bean Hospital in nearby Driffield. Endoscopy is undertaken at both Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary.
The Department is supported by a Nurse Practitioner team, consisting of four specialist nurses who take a lead role in running the two week wait referral clinic for suspected colorectal cancer, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy, and run follow up clinics for colorectal cancer patients. The Anorectal Physiology Service is supported by two specialist nurse equivalents. The Department of Stoma-therapy consists of 5 stoma nurses who also run a busy practice in rectal irrigation for functional bowel disorders.
This appointment is for a ST6+ Registrar in Colorectal Surgery at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This post is offered for 12 months. The timetable will include working a Full shift/24-hour shift pattern to include weekends, night duty and cover provision in Acute and Elective Surgery.
