We are looking to recruit a Head Cook/Chef to provide nutritional meals for a range of diets and consistency requirements, and to lead an amazing kitchen team. Very few jobs have such an impact on people’s lives and as the Head Cook at Stewton House, you will be a core component to enrich the lives of our residents.

The Head Cook will be required to lead the home's kitchen team and will be required to work in close cooperation with the Managers, and the nursing/care team were relevant, to organise and control the efficient and economic production of quality food within the allowed budget.

The Head Cook will be responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with EHO regulations; as well as the wellbeing of residents by preparing nutritional and diet adapted meals.

The post holder is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the food service areas, taking into consideration COSHH policy requirements, as well as ensuring all areas are kept clean, tidy; with all equipment safely stored. Other principal duties and responsibilities include:

• Planning and costing menus in liaison with the home manager, in order to provide a balanced and nutritious diet for all needs, making the best use of available fresh foods

• Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of meals (hot and cold, including desserts), in accordance with menus, residents’ choices and in compliance with specialist diets, textures, and needs.

• Maintain accurate records of food supplies, temperatures, and other H&S related actions in line with Infection Control and Food Hygiene.

• Supervise and instruct the kitchen team in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures, staff rota planning, as well as giving help and guidance as required (including undertaking supervisions)

• Ensure stock rotation, the ordering of stock and checking of deliveries

• Participate in staff meetings and other home events as required

• Any other duty deemed relevant and requested by the manager

The post is for 40 hours per week (less breaks), worked over four days a week. Each day shift is between 7.30am to 5.30 pm and the four days are worked as per rota over 7 days per week including weekends and bank holidays (NB The post requires alternate weekends to be worked).

Pay is variable and will be reflected on experience of the successful candidate but ranges between £14-16 per hour. As an employee with us, you will also receive training opportunities and be supported to further develop your skills and abilities.

All new staff at Stewton House are subject to a minimum of 12-week probation period. During this time an introduction programme will be completed, including mandatory training, supervision support, and competency checks. Ongoing support, appraisals, and supervisions are provided for all staff thereafter.
