St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, and Young Responders programmes).

Job Summary

We are now seeking an exceptional Executive Business Manager to lead our Executive Office and ensure the effective coordination of executive priorities across the organisation. This pivotal role sits at the heart of decision-making, providing strategic oversight, high-quality governance and seamless executive support to the Chief Executive and senior leadership team. If you are an experienced leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings sound judgement to complex issues and can translate strategy into well-coordinated action, this is a unique opportunity to help shape how our organisation delivers its mission

About You

We are looking for a highly organised and credible professional with experience working closely with senior or executive leaders in a complex, fast-paced organisation. You will bring strong judgement, discretion and the ability to manage sensitive information while coordinating activity across multiple teams and competing priorities. An effective leader and problem solver, you will have experience of managing and developing teams, improving systems and processes, and maintaining high standards of performance. With excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, you will be confident producing executive-level briefings, papers and correspondence, while translating complex issues into clear actions. You will be comfortable operating in ambiguity, able to maintain oversight of shifting priorities and build collaborative relationships to drive progress across organisational boundaries. A degree (or equivalent experience) and strong digital skills, including Microsoft 365, are essential, with experience of charity governance or working in a volunteer-led environment an advantage.

About the Role

Maintain oversight of organisational and executive priorities, ensuring executive time, agendas and forward plans align with strategic objectives and key delivery milestones.
Lead the Executive Office, setting clear standards and ways of working to deliver consistent, high-quality executive support across the organisation.
Oversee the preparation and quality assurance of executive meeting agendas, papers, briefings and records, ensuring clear decision-making and effective tracking of actions.
Manage the flow of information to and from senior leaders, handling sensitive issues with sound judgement, confidentiality and timely prioritisation.
Lead or coordinate executive-sponsored projects and initiatives, ensuring clear objectives, strong governance, stakeholder engagement and timely delivery.
Lead and develop the Executive Assistant team while driving improvements to systems, processes and governance to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
