Summary
The new appointee will be expected to have a broad understanding, knowledge and experience of general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery and endoscopy. The new appointee will be expected to be familiar with and competent in the investigation and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal disease including endoscopy. On call commitment with prospective cover for general surgical emergencies. Intermediate cover within the department is provided by Specialty Registrars/Trust Grade doctors. The rotas average working hours over the 12 weeks is 46. The roster will include 1 in 6 weekend working, night shifts, clinics, allocation to support theatres as well as Surgical SDEC. Elective general surgery dependent on the experience of the successful candidate and case mix. Responsible for colorectal rapid access outpatient clinics. To work with colleagues to audit activity and undertake research to ensure uniformly high standard of care. To participate in the teaching of undergraduates and other professional groups and to provide clinical supervision and training of junior hospital doctors. To participate in continuing professional development activities and in the Trusts appraisal and assessment processes, which include a formal annual appraisal.
