Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
Haverstock School and the governors of H3 Federation are seeking an exceptional and committed SENCo to join our diverse and ambitious inner London community as we pursue our goal, set out in our 5 Year School Development Plan, to ensure that “Inclusion is at the heart of our provision and inclusive values are embedded across the whole organisation.” This is an opportunity for a SEND professional to implement the vision of SEND in the mainstream in a vibrant and exciting setting.
Haverstock is well placed to deliver the aims for SEND provision set out in the recent DFE White Paper. We are dedicated to a universal offer of accessible adaptive teaching delivered by skilled teachers, supplemented by targeted and specialist intervention where required. Our Additionally Resourced Provision for students with ASD is an excellent example of the ambition to create specialist provision within mainstream schools; and our place within the three-school H3 Federation, encompassing an SEMH Special School and PRU alongside our mainstream school, gives us a wealth of SEND expertise to draw upon.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of our ambitious SDP, which runs to 2030 and aims to build on our existing strengths: strong classroom delivery that leads to good outcomes for students; a dedicated teaching staff committed to improving the life chances of our cohort; a sixth form that has grown rapidly in recent years in both numbers and reputation; and an enviable building and site in the heart of Camden, which will be owned by the school when our PFI contract ends in 2030.
They will lead the school’s strategic approach to SEND, managing an Inclusion team of Lead SEND Practitioners, HLTAs and TAs as well as the manager of our ARP. They will design and implement targeted and specialist support for a cohort of students with a wide range of SEND needs while also acting as a leader of teaching and learning across the school as we look to create a classroom environment which is not only accessible but engaging and inspiring to students of all prior attainment levels.
The successful candidate will form part of a cohesive whole-school leadership group. They will help to ensure that curriculum planning and delivery is SEND-informed through their attendance of meetings of the Academic Leadership team and will also form part of the “Intervention Plan Do Review” group which is made up of leaders from the Inclusion, Pastoral and Safeguarding teams and which plans packages of support for our most vulnerable children. Our vision is that Inclusive thinking is not “siloed” but permeates every area of our curriculum and provision.
The SENCo’s work will be managed by the Deputy Headteacher: Curriculum and Outcomes to ensure that our curriculum is shaped by SEND expertise.
Should you be interested in discussing the role in more detail, please arrange a time to meet with Joe Edwards, the Head of School, who would be happy to meet with you and give you a tour of the school.
