The Role

This is a high-impact, full-time position for a dedicated Law specialist, starting as soon as possible. The teacher will be responsible for nurturing a critical and evaluative approach in students, encouraging them to question who holds power in the UK's legal institutions. This role isn't just about passing exams; it's about equipping young people with the "powerful knowledge" required to become active, articulate citizens.

The School

Located in Leeds, this is a large, inclusive, and rapidly improving secondary school and Sixth Form that serves a vibrant, multi-cultural community. The school environment is professional, modern, and perfectly suited for A-level delivery. The Staff benefit from a culture that genuinely values professional development and work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with students, parents, and the wider staff community.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
Critical Skills
  • Legal Research: Ability to keep pace with evolving legislation and landmark case law.
  • Socratic Questioning: Skill in facilitating deep classroom discussion and debate.
  • Analytical Thinking: Breaking down complex statutes into digestible concepts for learners.
  • Data Literacy: Using student performance data to tailor teaching strategies.
  • Behaviour Management: Creating a calm, focused environment through positive reinforcement.
  • Literacy Instruction: Supporting students in mastering complex legal terminology and essay structure.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality lessons across the A-level Law curriculum to Year 12 and Year 13.
  • Foster a classroom culture of high expectations, integrity, and mutual respect.
  • Design and implement rigorous schemes of work that align with the school's knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Utilise data-driven interventions to ensure all students, regardless of background, meet or exceed their targets.
  • Prepare students for 100% exam-based assessments through regular mock trials and practice papers.
  • Act as a Positive Role Model, demonstrating the school's values of compassion and humility.
  • Engage in the wider life of the school, including supervising legal-themed enrichment and trips to Leeds Courts.
  • Collaborate with the Social Science team to share best practices and reduce individual planning workloads.
  • Provide detailed, constructive feedback to help students reflect on and improve their legal arguments.
  • Maintain a safe and stimulating learning environment, adhering to all safeguarding and behaviour policies.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive, collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunities for career progression and ongoing professional development.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • A Refer a Friend scheme where you could earn a £300 Love2shop voucher (subject to terms and conditions).
