Claims Handler – 1st & 3rd Party
Location: Solihull
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000
An established specialist firm is seeking a Claims Handler to manage a portfolio of 1st and 3rd party property and liability claims from first notification through to settlement.
You will act as the key point of contact for clients and policyholders, working closely with surveyors, contractors, insurers, and other stakeholders to deliver fair outcomes, excellent customer service, and effective cost control.
Key Responsibilities-
Manage a caseload of 1st and 3rd party claims from cradle to grave

Accurately register new claims and capture all relevant information at first notification of loss

Investigate liability and policy coverage using documentation, reports, and digital evidence

Liaise with policyholders, brokers, third parties, and suppliers, providing clear and timely updates

Coordinate with surveyors/engineers and contractors to scope damage and agree repair strategies

Set and regularly review financial reserves, ensuring accuracy and justification

Identify potential fraud, recovery opportunities, and escalate where appropriate

Negotiate fair settlements within delegated authority levels

Maintain accurate and detailed records across all claims activity

Manage workload effectively to meet KPIs and SLAs

Support audits, reporting, and claims reviews

Contribute to process improvements and service delivery enhancements

Assist with general administration and team support during peak periods
Skills & Experience Essential-
Experience handling insurance claims within property or liability (1st and/or 3rd party)

Strong customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Good analytical and decision-making ability

Experience using claims systems and Microsoft 365

Ability to manage a busy caseload and meet performance targets

High attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable-
Experience working alongside loss adjusters, surveyors, or within property claims environments

Knowledge of UK insurance policy wordings (property, liability, business interruption)

Understanding of FCA regulations, including Consumer Duty and Treating Customers Fairly
