Summary

Mechanical Engineer (Healthcare)

We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer for a 12-month contract at a major hospital site in Birmingham. This role is critical to maintaining the Acute Hospital estate, ensuring all mechanical services meet strict healthcare standards (HTM) and statutory requirements.

Role Overview
  • Pay Rate: £23.00 per hour.

  • Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM).

  • Contract: 12-month duration.

  • Start Date: ASAP.

  • Location: Birmingham.

Key Responsibilities
  • PPM & Reactive Maintenance: Deliver planned and breakdown maintenance across the entire hospital estate, including plant rooms and clinical areas (ITU, A&E, Theatres).

  • Technical Repairs: Diagnose and repair faults in engineering plant and equipment, including AHUs, FCUs, Boilers, and Calorifiers.

  • Systems Management: Use CAFM/Maximo and PDA systems to manage individually assigned workflows and ensure accurate record-keeping.

  • Compliance: Work in strict accordance with Health & Safety regulations (CDM), HTMs, and site-specific safety rules.

  • Infrastructure Support: Support stakeholders and the wider engineering team to maintain 100% service availability for the NHS Trust.

Requirements
  • Qualifications: City & Guilds (or equivalent) Mechanical qualifications are essential.

  • Training: Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent technical training.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of plant room equipment, air handling units, and pressurised systems.

  • Sector Experience: Previous experience in a Healthcare or Healthcare PFI environment is highly preferred.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in clinical environments with occasional exposure to distressing circumstances.
