Summary
This job is designed for a senior doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology who wishes to gain further experience in their chosen area of special interest (for example Emergency Gynaecology/EPU, Ambulatory Gynaecology, Laparoscopic Surgery, Urogynaecology, Maternal Medicine).
The primary aim of the role is to equip the Specialist Grade Doctor with clinical, surgical, and managerial competencies. The post will offer direct and indirectly supervised outpatient clinics and theatre lists alongside consultants. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead gynaecology and antenatal clinics, theatre lists, elective caesarean section lists and labour ward, in line with service requirements and individual competence. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop managerial skills and gain further experience in teaching, audit and clinical research.
The allocation of programmed activities will be based on 9.0 for direct clinical care and up to 1.0 for supporting professional activities. The final job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director. The pattern of work may alter in the future to meet changing needs and annual review meetings will take place in line with the job contract, job planning and appraisal arrangements.

The on-call commitment includes a fixed weekday night shift 1 in 4 weeks and a Monday night 1 in 12 weeks. The daily timetable is flexible and will be designed to support the candidate’s interests. The job contract will be initially for 12 months with extension to this being by mutual agreement. The post is offered on a full-time basis, comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) under the specialist grade contract. The job plan will be reviewed every 12 months, or earlier if required, to ensure that sessional commitments remain aligned with service needs and training objectives.
The post holder will undertake their on-call and Obstetric commitments at Frimley Park Hospital. It is anticipated that the post holder will undertake outpatient clinics and surgical operating sessions at both FPH and Heatherwood Hospitals.
