Property Maintenance Operative (Level 2) – HMP Peterborough
Job IntroductionWe are looking for a reliable and multi-skilled Property Maintenance Operative to support the upkeep and repair of facilities at HMP Peterborough. This role is key to ensuring a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for both staff and prisoners.
You will carry out a mix of planned and reactive maintenance across a range of trades, contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of the site. Working within a secure environment, you will play an important role in maintaining standards, supporting compliance, and minimising disruption to operations.

Main ResponsibilitiesCarry out general maintenance and repair work across multiple trades (e.g. plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical)
Respond to reactive maintenance issues and complete planned preventative maintenance tasks
Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety, and security procedures
Maintain accurate records of work completed using systems and tools provided
Work collaboratively with colleagues, departments, and contractors on site
Participate in the on-call and weekend rota to provide out-of-hours support

The Ideal CandidateHolds a Level 2 qualification in a relevant trade or has equivalent hands-on experience
Has experience in general property maintenance or a similar role
Demonstrates a strong understanding of health and safety practices
Able to work both independently and as part of a team
Has good communication and problem-solving skills
Reliable, flexible, and able to work effectively in a secure and regulated environment
The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Level 2 and Advanced DBS check.
Package DescriptionSalary: £28,000 – £37,500 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
On-call rota and weekend working required
