Summary
An exciting secondment opportunity/fixed‑term position has become available following the secondment of the existing post holder. We are looking for an experienced pharmacist with a passion for medicines safety improvement, who can support the organisation’s ambition to enhance the safe use of medicines across all care settings, while contributing to the ongoing review and development of medicines governance. You will work as part of the wider pharmacy team, in collaboration with the patient safety team and multidisciplinary colleagues, to deliver meaningful improvements to patient care and experience related to the use of medicines.
The post holder will support the Trust in delivering the patient safety incident response priority of improving the safe administration of medicines, working closely with the Deputy Pharmacy Lead for Medicines Safety and Governance and the Patient Safety Team. They will fulfil the statutory duties of the Medicines Safety Officer and participate in regional and national medicines safety networks.
They will assist in reviewing and monitoring medicines‑related safety incidents, support the development of learning responses, take part in After Action Reviews, and contribute to medicines incident risk‑reduction strategies. They will also support investigations involving medicines or prescribing, and provide updates and reports to the Patient Safety and Learning from Deaths Group.
The post holder will work with the Chief Pharmacist to review medicines governance processes and will lead the development and operation of a multidisciplinary Medicines Safety and Governance Group.
They will coordinate and oversee Trust audits on the safe storage and use of medicines (including controlled drugs) and on safe and effective prescribing. Additional responsibilities include managing responses to medicine‑related patient safety alerts.

To lead the Trust‑wide development, implementation and monitoring of quality, safety and governance processes related to the use of medicines, with a focus on reporting, learning and the development of preventative strategies for medication‑related incidents and adverse medication events. The overarching aim of this role is to improve the safety of patients, service users and staff in all aspects of medicines use.
To support the Trust in meeting its clinical governance, quality, safety, risk and financial management responsibilities relating to medicines.
To act as the Medication Safety Officer (MSO) for Nottinghamshire Healthcare, in line with Patient Safety Alert NHS/PSA/D/2014/005. This includes serving as a key link between the identification and implementation of medication safety initiatives and the operational activities required to improve the safe use of medicines. The post holder will work closely with patient safety and quality teams to enhance patient experience, reduce risks associated with medicines, and strengthen medicines governance.
To assist the Chief Pharmacist and Deputy Chief Pharmacists with the strategic planning of pharmacy services.
To provide expert pharmacological and clinical advice on all pharmaceutical and medicines‑related matters.
