Summary
Kitchen Cook – Short Job Description
Purpose:
To prepare nutritious, well‑presented meals that meet residents’ dietary needs, preferences, and cultural requirements while maintaining excellent hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and cook meals to a high standard
Adapt dishes for dietary needs (allergies, soft diets, diabetes, etc.)
Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment
Follow food hygiene regulations and complete required records
Manage stock, deliveries, and food storage
Work with care staff to understand residents’ preferences
Support menu planning and special events
Promote dignity, choice, and a positive dining experience
Skills & Qualities:
Experience cooking for groups or in a commercial kitchen
Good knowledge of food hygiene
Organised, reliable, and able to work independently
Respectful, person‑centred approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
Food Hygiene Level 2
Experience in a care home or similar setting
