Summary
Equans are looking for a Regional Technical Director-North to join our team covering the North of England. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 40 hours per week. This is a senior technical leadership role, reporting to the Divisional Technical Director, providing sector- and region-specific technical and engineering leadership within Sustainable FM. The role leads the delivery of technical excellence, engineering assurance, statutory compliance, and technical safety while contributing operational insight to the divisional technical strategy. The Regional Technical Director ensures that EQUANS’ technical standards, governance frameworks, and safety rules are effectively implemented across their region. The post holder oversees a significant number of technical managers, subject matter experts, and Authorising Engineers, providing clear leadership, direction, and professional development across a broad range of engineering disciplines, including electrical (HV/LV), mechanical, water hygiene, pressure systems, ventilation, natural gas, fire systems, healthcare systems (where applicable), and wider statutory compliance obligations in facilities management. The role acts as a key link between divisional strategy and operational delivery, ensuring alignment with EQUANS’ standards and the priorities of the Divisional Managing Directors. The post holder is accountable for the performance, assurance, and professional development of the regional technical team, driving consistency and high-quality service delivery across all contracts within the portfolio. What will you deliver?Provide regional technical leadership, ensuring consistently high standards of engineering compliance, assurance, and operational delivery across all contractsTranslate and implement the divisional technical strategy within the region, ensuring that EQUANS’ technical frameworks, governance standards, and Safe Systems of Work are fully embeddedLead and line-manage the regional technical team, including compliance managers, subject matter experts, and Authorising Engineers. Responsible for recruitment, development, performance management, and maintaining a collaborative, high-performance cultureManage the regional technical team budget, including resource planning, professional memberships, third-party services, and associated costs. Drive cost efficiency while maintaining high service standardsAct as the primary technical contact for the Divisional Managing Directors, operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners, providing trusted technical advice and clear communication channels. Work closely with the Divisional Managing Directors to ensure that sector-specific requirements, risks, and opportunities are appropriately reflected within the divisional technical strategy, or where necessary, that a separate sector-specific strategy is developed to address themSupport contracts through technical leadership and targeted intervention to stabilise service delivery, close compliance gaps, and embed improvementsLead investigations into technical incidents, accidents, and operational failures. Produce clear reports, oversee root cause analysis, and ensure remedial actions are completedPromote and sustain a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and professional development within both the regional technical team and operational delivery teamsChampion the adoption of innovative technologies, service models, and working methods that improve asset performance, energy efficiency, resilience, and commercial outcomes. Ensure divisional innovation initiatives are implemented consistently across the regionLead regional engagement with key industry bodies (BESA, IHEEM, IWFM, CIBSE, etc.), representing EQUANS’ regional technical interests and maintaining strong professional networksChair regional technical governance forums and represent the region within national EQUANS governance structuresEnsure Safe Systems of Work are correctly implemented, audited, and maintained across all contractsSupport business development, contract retention, and mobilisation through technical input, bid participation, and client presentationsProvide visible technical leadership across the region, representing EQUANS at client, industry, and governance forums.
