Summary
Are you ready to take the next step in your career and make a meaningful impact within the UK's electricity distribution network? Join Connections Projects LPN as a Project Designer and become a vital part of our London-based team. We are seeking a talented Project Designer with a passion for customer service, technical excellence, and innovative solutions.
Imagine working in a dynamic environment where your contributions directly shape the future of electricity connections across the UK Power Networks Licence area. As a permanent employee, you'll benefit from a competitive salary of £65,241, an Inner London Allowance, and a 3% bonus.
If you're driven by customer satisfaction, enthusiastic about safety and standards, and eager to collaborate with both customers and colleagues, this role is ideal for you. You'll work closely with a team of designers and report to the Lead Design Engineer, producing designs, quotations, and work packs for customer connections. The Project Designer is guided by the Design Policy and Connection Charging Manual, with projects ranging from £2,000 to £200,000, and occasionally up to £1 million. Autonomy and competence are expected, with support for developing your skills if you are not yet fully qualified for the core grade.
Your primary responsibilities will include liaising professionally with customers, their agents, and stakeholders to gather information needed for quotations. You'll produce designs, quotations, and work packs to agreed licence condition and guaranteed standard timescales, including network analysis, reinforcement design, and Netmap drawings. Supporting and mentoring junior team members, deputising for the Lead Design Engineer when necessary, consistently applying relevant policies and codes, and ensuring all safety and delivery requirements are met, you will help drive projects to financial targets and support project closure through financial reconciliation.
To succeed in this role, you should possess awareness of the design and operation of electricity distribution networks and be qualified to at least ONC level or equivalent. An ability to plan, manage time and resources, make intelligent balanced judgements, and demonstrate initiative as a team player is essential. Customer focus, enthusiasm, and a commitment to safety and security objectives are key qualities we value.
The Connections Directorate designs and manages new and altered electricity connections, always driven by customer needs. As Project Designer, you will liaise with customers to develop new connection designs, produce quotations and work packs, and conduct surveys and install monitoring equipment at secondary substations. You will be expected to manage your workload to meet customer expectations while complying with Licence Conditions, Guaranteed Standards, and Safety Standards.
Beyond a rewarding role, we offer a range of benefits including 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, private medical cover, Simply Health, reservist leave, generous pension contributions, tenancy loan deposit and season ticket loan schemes, tax-efficient benefits such as Cycle to Work, Home & Tech, and Green Car Leasing, occupational health support, discounts at hundreds of retailers, discounted gym membership, and access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
