Summary

We at Randstad are looking for a technically robust Design Engineer to manage and execute detailed structural designs across a diverse project portfolio. This role requires a versatile engineer capable of handling both permanent and temporary works, ensuring all outputs are innovative, safe, and commercially viable. You will bridge the gap between theoretical design and site-based reality, providing critical technical support throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Design: Prepare and verify detailed calculations, drawings, risk assessments, and design certificates. Manage preliminary designs and secure third-party technical approvals (including Rail/Eurocodes compliance).

  • Technical Support: Deliver value-engineered solutions and alternative designs. Conduct technical reviews of method statements for complex works and advise on defects or compensation events.

  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs meet CDM, Health & Safety, and environmental regulations. Assist in maintaining internal technical standards and provide pricing support for estimating.

  • Collaboration: Liaise with clients, suppliers, and third parties to promote best practices and ensure seamless project integration.

Requirements

Technical Essentials:

  • Design Expertise: Mandatory experience in Permanent and Temporary Works design within a structural/civil engineering environment.

  • Software & Calculation: Proficiency in CAD, frame analysis, and structural design software, alongside the ability to perform hand calculations (or via MathCAD).

  • Codes & Standards: Thorough knowledge of Eurocodes, BS 5975, and relevant industry specifications.

  • Education: Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.

Professional Attributes:

  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify critical load cases and determine structural suitability independently.

  • Communication: An assertive communicator able to coach team members and manage multiple project deadlines effectively.

  • Site Awareness: A strong understanding of construction processes and "buildability."

Preferred:

  • Professional Status: Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (MICE/IStructE) or actively working towards it.

  • Site Experience: A background that includes both site and office-based design.

  • Credentials: Valid CSCS card.
