As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Project Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role purpose: To have overall accountability for successful project delivery including; initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover/close out. A change agent that provides management, leadership and inspires a multi-disciplinary team to achieve a common goal and to determine the most appropriate means of satisfying customer/project requirements, objectives and constraints; time, cost, quality, scope, risk and benefits.

What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will have the following accountabilities:
  • Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.);
  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders;
  • Initiates good scope/information/configuration management principles;
  • Ensure reports provide relevant information which enable decisions to be made
    which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall strategy;
  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and
    supply chain;
  • Carry out periodic Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and
    safety initiatives;
  • Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with
    internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the
    team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance
    management;
  • Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and
    progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that
    contractual arrangements are achieved;
  • Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans,
    such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled
    deadlines;
  • Ensure all work is undertaken with a view towards handover and certification
    Accountable for KPI’s in line with project objectives and monitor performance;
  • Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly
    meetings;
  • Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and
    customer expectations;
  • Establish robust change control process;
  • Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised
    efficiently to ensure cost control;
  • Lead effective reporting routines including escalation as required;
  • Advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support successful project
    delivery – data driven decisions.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery with a good understanding of the standard forms of contracts;
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications;
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work;
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the
    organisation;
  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to
    build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team
    where required;
  • Commercially astute and able to undertake work in high pressure situations;
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics;
  • Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving;
  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team.

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types;
  • Member of a professional management body i.e. APM;
  • Proficient on Microsoft O365;
  • Holds a current driving licence.

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management/construction (or experience
    equivalent);
  • APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ;
  • CSCS and SMSTS (or equivalent).
