Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Construction Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Role purpose: To provide strategic direction and leadership for a large complex project ensuring they align with the company's goals, budget, and timelines. Establish programme deliverables, manage resources effectively, and foster relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. Responsible for managing risks and ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.

What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will have the following accountabilities:

  • Accountable for RAMs, Procedures and SSOW are in place throughout the
    Project with the hierarchy of responsibility implemented with the construction
    team;
  • Lead Pre-Starts with major supply chains and their mobilisation of the
    Project as well as holds accountable construction managers;
  • Lead operational teams on large complex projects;
  • Overall responsibility of programme delivery ensuring conflicts of logic and
    sequence are resolved;
  • Coordination and implementation of site-wide daily briefings;
  • Accountable for the implementation of short interval control (Short Term Planning) decision-making about the overall programme;
  • Coordination and planning of Balfour Beatty construction teams’ work with the understanding of priority to the critical path;
  • Leadership on priority allocation of resources and logistics;
  • Accountable for the plant and access of the project ensuring that the facilitating of critical activities in the required sequence;
  • Accountable for the site setup mobilisation and maintenance of the Project Life Cycle implementing best practices;
  • Set the Quality standards inclusive of relevant documentation on the Project with clear deliverables for all construction teams to implement. A champion of 'Right First Time;
  • Keeping up to date with regulation changes and ensuring these are implemented by the construction team as well as the understanding of further development needs and specialisation;
  • Take a leading role in the design management of the Project focusing on integration of the construction management and design management functions.
  • Ensuring that there is synergy between the technical and buildability aspects;
  • Deep understanding and commercial savviness of contract mechanics as well as the ability to administrate contract matters with both the supply chain and the client;
  • Understand the commercial implications and drivers within the construction process and incorporate these into the decision-making of the construction and commercial team;
  • Ownership of senior supply chain members with a buy-in to the Balfour Beatty Site-Culture as well as advancing their competency in working for Balfour Beatty;
  • Proactively assist with managing the customer relationship during delivery, including change and decision-making to effectively manage expectations.

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Effective communication to manage customer relationships, in addition to
    planning and organisation skills to deliver operational excellence and
    efficiency with effective leadership skills;
  • Ability to improve safety and sustainability performance;
  • Personally achieve negotiations and conflict resolutions as well as leading
    others to do the same;
  • Excellent understanding and management of data and processes and an ability to apply construction management principles at an expert level;
  • Proficiency in understanding technical drawings, plans, and specifications,
    as well as familiarity with construction materials, methods, and techniques;
  • Advanced IT skills for the use of BIM and construction management tools;
  • Expert in construction techniques, methodologies and management principles;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Budgeting and cost control with financial
    awareness of delivery targets;
  • Comprehensive understanding of contract negotiation and procurement;
  • Significant experience in leading and developing a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Previous Construction Management experience within the relevant industry
    is required;
  • Involvement in developing and executing construction project budgets;
  • Advanced experience with project scheduling and timeline management;
  • In-depth experience with regulatory agencies and ensuring compliance with
    regulations and standard;
  • Advanced experience in handling safety management on construction sites
    and implementing safety protocols.
