Daisy and Rainbow Childcare is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with strong roots in the Totnes community dating back to the 1980s.
Rainbow Nursery provides childcare for children aged 3 months to 4 years, while Daisy Pre-school supports children aged 2–4 years during term time.
Our ethos centres on play-based learning, creative exploration, and supporting each child to develop a positive self-image. We believe children thrive when families, carers, and practitioners work closely together.
The Role
We are looking for a warm, playful and enthusiastic Nursery Key Person to join our team.
You will work closely with the Two-Year-Old Team Lead and wider leadership team, supporting a key group of children aged 2–3 years, while also working across the wider nursery where children of different ages learn and play together.
You will help provide high-quality early years education and care, supporting children's learning through play in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Key Responsibilities
Play and Learning
Support engaging play experiences that encourage curiosity and development
Plan learning opportunities for your key group of children aged 2–3
Observe, assess and record children’s development using EYFS guidance
Lead activities such as storytelling, singing, messy play and outdoor play
Help prepare and maintain stimulating play environments
Communication with Parents and Carers
Build positive relationships with families
Provide daily feedback and handovers on children's wellbeing and development
Support new child and parent inductions
Maintain accurate records and documentation (accidents, sleep, meals etc.)
Care and Wellbeing
Support children's daily care needs including toileting, nappy changing and hygiene
Supervise and support meal and snack times
Ensure children feel safe, secure and supported throughout the day
Nursery Environment
Help maintain a clean, safe and stimulating nursery environment
Support daily set-up and tidy-down of play areas
Assist with cleaning resources, equipment and garden areas
Safeguarding
Remain alert to safeguarding concerns and follow appropriate procedures
Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for all children

Essential Requirements
Level 3 Early Years qualification (or working towards)
Experience working with children under 5 in an early years setting
Understanding of child development and the EYFS framework
Awareness of safeguarding and child protection
Desirable
First Aid qualification
Food hygiene certificate
Additional training related to child development or SEND
Additional Information
Staff meetings, training and supervision form part of the role
Evening staff meetings are held at least monthly
Opportunities for professional development are provided
