Summary

SEN Teaching Assistant Winchester

Prospero Teaching is looking for a motivated and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school setting in Winchester. You will be working with pupils who require additional help due to learning needs, autism, ADHD, communication differences, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
This long-term role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping children thrive and wants to build meaningful relationships with pupils who benefit from patience, consistency, and tailored support. You will work closely with teaching staff and SEN teams to provide both 1:1 and small-group assistance throughout the school day.
Candidates from care, support work, youth settings, residential environments, and graduates in subjects such as psychology, criminology, education, or child development are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Role:
Offer 1:1 support and small-group interventions for pupils with a range of SEND needs
Help pupils engage in lessons, manage routines, and remain focused
Support communication, emotional regulation, and social development
Assist with adapting activities and resources under teacher guidance
Encourage confidence, independence, and positive behaviour
Work closely with SENCO, teachers, and pastoral staff
Provide a calm, structured, and supportive classroom environment


Ideal Candidate:
Experience in SEND, youth work, care, mentoring, or general child support
Patient, calm, and consistent in your approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Comfortable supporting pupils with varied and complex needs
Passionate about helping children make progress both academically and emotionally
Graduates looking for meaningful classroom experience welcome

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Winchester
Start: ASAP
Hours: Full-time, long-term
Pay: £14.66 - £15.66 per hour
Duration: Ongoing, long-term role


Experience, Training & Safeguarding:
Experience with children desirable
Training in safeguarding or SEND is helpful (but can be provided)
Must meet standard DBS and reference requirements
