Summary
The Stop Smoking Advisor will deliver structured smoking cessation support to patients registered with GP practices across Brighton & Hove. The service is designed to increase the number of smokers making quit attempts and achieving successful quits through a combination of behavioural support and stop smoking aids. Key responsibilities include: Delivering structured stop smoking consultations following the Standard Treatment Programme, including pre-quit preparation and weekly follow-up support Supporting patients through a programme consisting of multiple contacts during the first four weeks after a quit date, Providing behavioural counselling to help patients manage cravings, triggers and relapse risk Supporting patients to access appropriate stop smoking aids for a minimum of 12 weeks, based on nicotine dependence and individual needs Conducting carbon monoxide monitoring to validate quit outcomes Recording patient outcomes including quit attempts, quit dates and four-week quit status Contributing to service monitoring and quality improvement activities Working collaboratively with Brighton & Hove City Council Smokefree Team, GP practices and pharmacies to ensure patients can access appropriate support pathways Support may be delivered through face-to-face, telephone or virtual consultations depending on patient needs.
