Summary

The Deputy Democratic Services Manager supports the leadership and management of the council’s Democratic Services team, ensuring effective governance and legally compliant decision-making processes. The role involves overseeing committee administration, supporting scrutiny and member development, advising councilors and officers on constitutional and decision-making procedures, and managing staff performance. The post holder deputies for the Democratic Services Manager, coordinates council meetings and appeals processes, maintains key governance records, and works with stakeholders to improve democratic engagement and service delivery.

Essential Criteria:

* Degree in a relevant subject.
* Advanced knowledge of governance processes and issues affecting local government.
* Strong understanding of democratic engagement and participation.
* Experience managing staff and leading teams.
* Experience working in a Democratic Services or similar governance role.
* Experience delivering service improvements.
* Experience working in a political environment with appropriate sensitivity.
* Experience advising councilors and officers on decision-making processes.
* Operational knowledge of council constitutions and their implementation.
* Experience using committee management systems (e.g., Modern.gov) for agendas, minutes, decisions, and councilor information.
