About the Client
Southwark Council’s Responsive Repairs service sits within the Housing division and is responsible for delivering high‑quality repair, maintenance and technical services across the borough’s housing stock. The Specialist Technical Services team provides expert surveying support to ensure safe, compliant and well‑maintained homes for residents.

The Role
We are seeking two experienced Building Surveyors to support the Responsive Repairs service. You will provide a comprehensive professional surveying and technical function, diagnosing building defects, specifying works, and managing repairs from inception to completion. This includes programming works, supervising contractors, ensuring quality standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

You will act as a technical expert within your field, advising on building practices, statutory and legislative changes, and sustainable technologies that enhance service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Diagnose building defects and specify a broad range of repair works and adaptations.

Manage works from initial inspection through to completion, ensuring quality, cost control and compliance.

Supervise contractors and monitor performance against agreed standards.

Develop and maintain effective working practices, ensuring a high‑quality, customer‑focused service.

Build strong working relationships with residents, contractors, supply chain partners and internal teams.

Provide expert advice on building practices, legislation, and sustainable technologies.

Support tender processes including arrangement, invitation and evaluation to ensure financial and audit compliance.

Candidate Requirements
Strong experience in building surveying within housing, repairs or maintenance environments.

Ability to diagnose defects, specify works and manage projects end‑to‑end.

Knowledge of statutory requirements, building regulations and construction best practice.

Experience supervising contractors and ensuring quality delivery.

Strong communication and customer‑focused approach.

Ability to work independently, manage workload and meet deadlines.
