Summary

Clinical Care: Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care across all stages of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Promote safe, individualised care and advocate for women/birthing people, supporting their preferences wherever clinically appropriate. Provide care for both low risk and complex cases, recognising when to escalate concerns or seek additional clinical input. Community & Birth Centre Practice: Work flexibly across community settings and the midwifery led Birth Centre, contributing to continuity of care, safe birth environments and effective team based care. Support homebirths and waterbirths in line with Trust pathways and professional guidance. Communication & Relationships: Establish strong therapeutic relationships with families, providing reassurance, sensitive communication and clear information. Work collaboratively with safeguarding teams, GPs, health visitors and other external agencies when required. Risk Assessment & Safety: Perform ongoing clinical risk assessments, identify deviations from expected progress and take appropriate action. Participate in emergency responses, adhere to local guidelines and contribute to maintaining a safe environment for families and colleagues. Professional Standards: Maintain professional accountability in line with the NMC Code and Trust policies. Engage in regular supervision, mandatory training, reflective practice and continuing professional development to support safe, contemporary midwifery practice. Leadership & Support: Act as a role model within the team, supporting junior colleagues, students and newly qualified midwives. Provide guidance and contribute to a positive, learningfocused culture. Documentation & Information Management: Ensure all care, advice, tests and interventions are accurately recorded in maternity records and clinical IT systems. Maintain confidentiality at all times and share information only when appropriate and necessary. Service Delivery: Participate in local governance, audits, incident reporting and service improvement activities. Support the daily functioning of the maternity service, including meetings, caseload management and operational tasks. Contribute to the wider Trust commitment to safe, equitable maternal and neonatal care.
