Lead Vet – East London
East London (multi-site hospital)
Salary up to £70,000 – dependent on experience
Full Time | 37.5 hours per week | Permanent
Lead, operate, mentor… and still enjoy being a vet.
If you’re an experienced veterinary surgeon who enjoys surgery, likes having a clear clinical plan, and wants to lead a team that genuinely works together, this could be the role for you.
We’re working with a well-established veterinary hospital group in East London that provides essential veterinary care to the local community. Their mission is simple: make high-quality treatment accessible while keeping pets and their people together when life gets tough.
They’re now looking for a Veterinary Surgeon Team Leader to guide and support their talented clinical team across a busy hospital setting.
What you’ll be doing
This is a hands-on clinical leadership role where you’ll combine your surgical skills with team leadership and clinical governance.
Your role will include:
• Leading and supporting a team of Veterinary Surgeons
• Maintaining strong clinical governance and standards across the hospital
• Managing recruitment, mentoring and development of vets in the team
• Handling a surgically biased caseload with a pragmatic, evidence-based approach
• Collaborating closely with colleagues on case discussions and treatment planning
• Communicating clearly and compassionately with a wide variety of clients
You’ll be the kind of vet who enjoys finding practical solutions, building confidence in your team, and helping colleagues develop their skills.
The hospital
You’ll be working across two highly collaborative East London veterinary hospitals, where teamwork and case discussion are very much part of the culture.
Facilities include:
• Separate dog and cat kennelling
• In-house radiography
• Ultrasound and endoscopy
• Piped gases
• Extensive orthopaedic equipment
• Modern, well-equipped theatres
The team has a wide mix of clinical interests, so there’s always someone to bounce ideas off.
Working pattern
• Flexible shifts between 8:30am – 8:00pm (Mon–Fri)
• 1 weekend in 7–8 on average
• Enhanced pay and time off in lieu for weekend work
What they’re looking for
• An experienced Veterinary Surgeon ready for leadership responsibility
• Someone confident with a surgically biased caseload
• A vet who takes a practical, evidence-based approach to medicine
• A collaborative team player who enjoys mentoring others
• Strong communication and leadership skills
Benefits
This organisation is passionate about creating a supportive place to work, and offers a great range of benefits including:
• £1000 CPD allowance + 5 days CPD leave
• RCVS fees paid
• Internal CPD programmes + discounts for major vet conferences
• 25 days holiday + bank holidays (option to buy/sell up to 5 days)
• 3 extra paid days each year for volunteering, wellbeing and celebrations
• Generous pension contributions (5–10%)
• Private medical cover & wellbeing support
• Life assurance (4x salary)
• Retail and lifestyle discounts
• Enhanced family leave policies
• Staff veterinary services and discounted pet insurance
