Your new school
A school in Handsworth is seeking an experienced and qualified SENCO to join their team on a part‑time basis, working three days per week.
The school serves a rich, diverse Handsworth community and places strong emphasis on partnership with families, celebrating cultural heritage and delivering an inclusive, broad curriculum. They have a clear SEND approach focused on early identification, personalised provision mapping and support across the four broad areas of need.
Your new role
This role does not include formal teaching responsibilities; however, you will be expected to provide high‑quality modelling, coaching, and training to staff across the school.
You will:
- Lead and coordinate whole‑school SEND provision and statutory duties.
- Provide modelling, coaching and training for teachers and support staff to embed inclusive practice.
- Oversee assessment, EHCP processes, referrals and personalised provision mapping.
- Liaise with families, external agencies and governors; contribute to school improvement planning.
- Work operationally with two HLTAs who will support day‑to‑day delivery.
This is to start after Easter, due to a promotion within the school, and will be for the full summer term with the possibility to extend.
What you'll need to succeed
- A SENCO qualification is essential
- Strong understanding of SEND processes, provision, and statutory requirements
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory processes.
- Ability to lead, model best practice, and support staff development
- Confident working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies
What you'll get in return
- Support from two experienced HLTAs within the SEND team
- A flexible working pattern (3 days per week)
- Paid to scale in line with your experience and qualifications
- Opportunity for the contract to extend beyond the academic year
