Healthcare Assistant – Admissions & Day Care Unit
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and reliable Healthcare Assistant to join our busy Admissions and Day Care Unit. This is a rewarding opportunity to support patients throughout their admission journey and short-stay treatment experience, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Role Overview
As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work under the supervision of registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective, and dignified care to patients attending for planned procedures, investigations, and day treatments. You will play a key role in ensuring patients feel comfortable, informed, and supported from admission through to discharge.
Please note: Successful candidates will be appointed at Band 2 and will progress to Band 3 upon successful completion of the required training and competencies. Candidates who have already completed the relevant training and can demonstrate the required competencies may be appointed directly at Band 3.
Main Duties• Assist in the safe and efficient admission of patients to the unit
• Provide high-quality personal care, ensuring dignity, privacy, and respect at all times
• Record baseline observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate) and promptly report any abnormalities to the registered nurse
• Support patients before and after procedures, monitoring comfort and wellbeing
• Assist with patient mobility and transfers, using appropriate moving and handling techniques
• Prepare and restock clinical areas, ensuring equipment is clean and ready for use
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with organisational policies
• Support the discharge process, ensuring patients have appropriate documentation and belongings
• Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures
• Respond promptly to patient call bells and requests for assistance
• Provide reassurance and emotional support to patients and relatives
• Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective care
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with safeguarding procedures
• Participate in training, supervision, and ongoing professional development

JOB SUMMARY
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) will undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care and associated duties under the direction and supervision of registered professionals working as part of a multi-disciplinary health and care team.
The post holder will:
• Participate in the delivery of personal patient centred care, always
maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude with patients, their families and carers.
• Contributes to the service/ team organisation.
• Support registered nurses/ nursing associates and Allied Health Care
professionals (AHP’s) in the provision of a caring and safe environment.
• Records patient observations and changes to patient’s clinical condition
and carries out limited clinical care duties.
This post is suitable to people who have experience as health care support
worker/ clinical support worker.
The post holder will work shift patterns associated with the team /service / site where the post is offered.
